Abstract

417,294. Magnetic compasses. EKBOM, E. G. O., Garpenberg, Sweden. Jan. 15, 1934, No. 1474. [Class 97 (ii).] The cover plate 9, hinged at 10 to a plate 8 carrying a compass box 6 or compass card, is provided at the edge opposite the hinge with a mirror 2 which has a straight and free outer edge of considerable length and parallel with the axis of the hinge 10. When taking bearings, the image 4 of the user's sighting eye 1 may be caused to fall on any point of the free outer edge of the mirror and the line of connection between the eye 1 and image 4 may be used as sighting line. A further hinged mirror 12 enables the compass to be read at the same time as a target 3 is sighted.
