Abstract

792,305. Wood preservative compositions. HICKSON'S TIMBER IMPREGNATION CO., (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd. Jan. 27, 1956 [Feb. 3, 1955; June 16, 1955], Nos. 3213/55 and 17447/55. Class 140. A water-soluble wood preservative composition in free-flowing powder form comprises a mixture of copper and/or zinc sulphates, each having a moisture content equivalent to not more than three molecules of water of crystallization, an arsenic compound, and one or more of ammonium, potassium, or anhydrous sodium dichromates. The arsenic compound may be arsenic pentoxide or the low pH alkali metal or ammonium arsenate described in Specification 792,304 and the mixture preferably gives in a 40 gm/litre solution a pH of 2 to 2.8. The composition may also contain sodium bifluoride, sodium sulphate, sodium bisulphate, dinitrophenol, and the cresols. The Provisional Specifications also refer to compositions of the above kind but containing no arsenic compounds.
