Abstract

Ointments and solutions for topical application comprise water, papain, urea and inorganic boron compound, the composition preferably having a pH in the range 5 to 7. The ratio of papain to urea is generally in the range 1 : 1/2 to 1 : 2 by weight and the compositions should contain at least 10% by weight of water and in general the water content may be between 5 to 50%. A water soluble chlorophyll may also be present in amounts of 0.0 to 1% (preferably 0.1 to 0.5%) of the total weight. Specified boron-containing substances are boric, pyroboric and metaboric acids and their sodium salts. Specified chlorophylls are sodium and potassium copper chlorophyllin, sodium and potassium magnesium chlorophyllin, sodium and potassium iron chlorophyllin. The commercially available "water-soluble chlorophyll" which is a mixture of potassium (predominantly) and sodium copper chlorophyllins is preferred.
