Abstract

791,949. Lawn mowers. WHITFIELD, A. J. May 7, 1956 [May 11, 1955], No. 13626/55. Class 6(2). A lawn mower comprising a cutting cylinder 5, the height of which is adjusted by means of a forwardly mounted roller 4, is provided with a rake or comb member mounted between the cutting cylinder and the roller for the purpose of raising the grass which has been flattened by the roller. The rake or comb member comprises a tubular portion 6 fitted with tines 8 which are inclined towards the cutting cylinder at their operative ends. The tubular portion of the rake or comb member is supported between the side frames of the mower and engages at each end a screwed member 7 carrying a spring 9 whose ends are restrained by the mower frame and the tubular portion 6 respectively, the two springs serving to counteract the back pressure exerted on the tines during the operation of the device. The pressure exerted by the springs may be varied by screwing the members 7 into or out of the tubular portion 6, and locking nuts 13 are provided in order to keep the members in the desired position.
