Abstract
791,423. Controlling aircraft. HELIO AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. [July 11, 1955 July 30, 1954], No. 20011/55. Class 4. In an aircraft having a lift coefficient of at least 2-5, means to ensure a high degree of lateral and longitudinal control at low forward speeds comprise a lift spoiling flap 5 on each wing connected with an aileron 6 and associated with automatic leading edge slats 4. Such arrangement is stated to provide a rolling moment proportional to the lift coefficient. In order to ensure adequate control in pitch at low forward speeds with considerable downwash from the propeller slipstream, the tail plane 10 is pivotally movable about an axis 13 by a control 10b and an anti-balance tab 12, pivoted at 16 to the tailplane, is provided with an arm 14 slotted at 15 to co-operate with a fixed pin to ensure automatic deflection when the tail plane is deflected.
