Abstract

In the process of the parent Specification which comprises separating benzene hydrocarbons and naphthalene from gases by cooling and washing with a solvent, rich in solvent naphtha, and calcium chloride solution at below 0 DEG C., a bubble cap column is used for the washing column and the gas prior to entry into the column is mixed with calcium chloride solution. This prevents the formation of icicles under the lowest tray. The calcium chloride solution injected into the gas may be obtained from the circulating calcium chloride solution and is preferably sprayed into the gas.
