790,590. Dental handpieces. KALTENBACH, A., and HOFFMEISTER, E. April 30, 1956 [May 4, 1955], No. 13254/56. Class 81 (2). A dental handpiece is provided with a removable bearing sleeve 17 and a drive spindle 24 having at its front end a spindle sleeve 9 with an internal conical opening 8 in which a removable chuck 1, which is operated by a clamping rod 3, is arranged, a hollow shaft 12 for receiving a tool shank being rotatably mounted in the bearing sleeve 17 and connected with a conical sleeve 7 which extends into the spindle sleeve opening 8 and embraces the chuck 1. Release of a locking hook 20 permits removal of a handletube 15 and hood 16 so that the bearing sleeve 17 and a sapphire or hard metal bearing 14 for the shaft 12 may be unscrewed from the handpiece. A unit comprising the chuck 1, conical sleeve 7 and hollow shaft 12 may then be removed when the clamping rod 3 has been unscrewed from the rear end of the chuck 1. The conical sleeve 7 is secured to a collar 11 on the hollow shaft 12 by means of a flange 10 or by a screw thread (not shown). The chuck 1 has a conical head 5 with longitudinal slots and may be drawn back by the clamping rod 3 so that it slides rearwardly in the conical sleeve 7 to grip the tool shank.
