Abstract

888,836. Curettes. MESSINES DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Oct. 31, 1960 [Nov. 3, 1959], No. 37282/60. Class 81 (2). An instrument for cutting remnants of tonsil comprises a cutting blade set adjacent to the end of a tubular holder so that blood and particles of tissue can be withdrawn through the tube as the operation proceeds. The cutting head comprises a tubular, internally - threaded portion 12, Figs. 5, 6, at the outer end of which a cutting blade 17, having a sharpened edge 16, is supported on lateral extensions of the port 12, so as to leave apertures 15 through which tissue &c. may pass into the interior of the head. The blade portion is set slightly obliquely as shown, to facilitate cutting, the cutting edge 16 being forward of the blunt edge 18. The head is screwed on the end of a curved tubular shank 2, Fig. 1, and secured by a lock-nut 14, while the shank passes through a handle 1 and communicates with an outlet 6, which carries a loose collar 7 to which a flexible aspirating tube 8 may be attached. The collar is free to rotate on the stem 6, so that, in use, the instrument can be rotated without restraint.
