Abstract

790,321. Automatic catches. GRIMBLEBY, C. R. May 20, 1955, No. 14540/55. Class 44 [Also in Group XXX] A spindle supporting a current collecting wheel which collects current from overhead cables consists of two parts one part comprising a flanged tubular member forming the spindle and the other part having a short shank carrying outwardly spring biased locking members which can readily be locked in or released from a groove within the flanged tubular member. The flanged tubular member which rotatably supports the current collecting wheel and is shown in Figs. 3 is provided internally with a groove N and on it flange A with radial projections B which engage in recesses C in the trolly head, Fig. 2. A detachable head, Figs. 4 and 5, has a short shank which engages in the open end of the tubular member and carries two plates L pivotally mounted in a slot K on pins T and outwardly biased by springs P so that when the shank is inserted in the tubular member semi-circular plates M carried by the plates L engage in the groove N to lock the head in position. When the head is to be removed from the tubular member a spindle, screwed at F into the head and carrying at its end a hollow conical member J, is screwed outwardly of the head so that the hollow conical member J engages over conical portions H carried by the plates L to draw the semi-circular plates M together and out of engagement with the groove N thus allowing the head to be removed.
