Abstract

789,705. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 16, 1955 [Oct. 1, 1955; Oct. 3, 1955], No. 32791/55. Class 40 (2). A guide member for tape shaped magnetic record carriers has a plurality of guiding paths or contact surfaces for carriers of different widths, the guiding path 6 for the carrier of smallest width lying inside a depression 5 between portions 4 of the contact surface for the carrier of largest width, the gap of at least one magnetic head 7 being incorporated in the guide member and projecting from a said guiding path or contact surface. In the embodiment described, the portions 4 form a contact surface for a 70 mm. wide picture-sound film, and also form a guiding path by means of rollers (not shown). Depression 5 forms a guiding path for standard 35 mm. films, while the further depression 6 forms a guiding path for a smaller width film and may also be provided with a magnetic head or heads 7, although such is not shown in the Figures.
