[Also in Group XVIII] Pellets of fusible material, e.g. waxes, dyestuffs or polyethylene, are formed by allowing the material to fall as drops from a heated container 1 between the wall of a nozzle 14 and a reciprocating piston 7 onto a band 17 cooled by a water spray 19. The pistons may be reciprocated individually or collectively either by an electromagnet 10 (as shown) or by cams or pneumatically. Each piston fits loosely within its nozzle in such a manner that liquid may fall freely in a stream through the nozzle, until the piston is reciprocated which has the effect of retarding the flow on the upstroke to form drops and then to accelerate the drops on the down stroke. The lower part of each piston may be enlarged in the form of a ball or disc. The drops may be deposited on a rotating disc, the frequency of the outer pistons being made greater than that of the inner pistons to give a uniform charge on the disc. A float 4 with a rod 5 indicates the level of liquid in the container.
