Abstract

789,370. Cycle tyre inflators. EVIAN (GB), Ltd. Sept. 20, 1956 [Sept. 23, 1955], No. 28811/56. Class 8(1). A hand pump for inflating pneumatic tyres comprises a piston 1 working in cylinder 2. The cylinder is closed at one end by a head 3 having an orifice 5, whose axis is transverse to the axis of the cylinder, communicating with the cylinder 2 through the passageway 4. The orifice 5 has a recess 7 in which is fitted a resilient sleeve 8 and washer 9 retained by a circlip 10. The internal diameter of the sleeve 8 is at least equal to the outside diameter of the upper part of the normal tyre valve body. In operation the valve body passes through the sleeve 8 until the larger diameter lower portion of the valve body meets the washer 9. By pressing the head against the valve body, by hand, the sleeve is compressed longitudinally and contracts inwardly around the upper part of the valve body, forming an air tight seal. On releasing the pressure the sleeve returns to its original shape so that the pump is easily disengaged from the valve. Specification 420,655 is referred to.
