Abstract

<PICT:0789347/III/1> A glass aerosol container 22 is sheathed in a coating 37 of plastic material having elastic qualities sufficient to prevent glass fragments from escaping should the container shatter as a result of excessive internal pressure, the sheath having one or more perforations 43 to allow venting. The coating, which is in non-bonded relation with the container body, may be a vinyl chloride-acetate resin, a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer compound, cellulose acetate butyrate resinous compound or a melamine resin. Preferably the formation of the sheath is accomplished by first forming a plastisol includng the desired plasticizer such as di-iso-octyl phthalate or tricresyl phosphate and other desired ingredients with finely milled vinyl chloride resin and causing this liquid plastisol composition to adhere to the container in the desired thickness, after which the coating is cured.
