Abstract
Beta berrylium hydroxide is prepared by precipitation from a solution of a beryllium salt by an alkali, by simultaneously introducing into a reaction vessel the solution of the beryllium salt and the alkali in the form of a solution or as a gas. The pH of the liquid in the reaction chamber is kept between 6 and 8.5. The temperature is kept between 80 DEG C. and boiling, preferably between 90 DEG C. and 100 DEG C., and preferably between 95 DEG C. and 98 DEG C. The process may be made continuous by periodic or continuous withdrawal of the reaction products. The reaction vessel may be seeded with a quantity of previously precipitated beta beryllium hydroxide at or before the beginning of the reaction.
