A closure assembly for a bottle having a neck 11 with reinforcing ring 13 and shoulder 15 consists of a crown cork 16 with cork liner 23 covered by metal foil 25 and a sealing sleeve 30 of extruded cellulose or a rubber hydro-carbon product shrunk on to the neck and cap 16 to cover apertures 27 between the crimps and the bottle and prevent the entry of dirt or germs.
