Abstract

Copper-containing dyestuffs are made by treating a dyestuff of formula <FORM:0787416/IV (b)/1> (where A is the residue of a tetrazotized diphenyl- or benzoylamino-benzene compound, B the residue of an o-phenol-carboxylic acid, C the residue of an alkoxy-naphthylamino-monosulphonic acid and D the residue of a 1-amino-8-naphthol-disulphonic acid) with a copper-yielding agent, and converting the slightly soluble or insoluble complex thus obtained containing 2 metal atoms per molecule, by heating with a complex forming aliphatic amine or aminocarboxylic acid, in an acid medium, into the soluble copper complex containing one metal atom per molecule. The starting dyestuffs may be made by conventional methods vide Specification 408,677. Coppering is effected by boiling with copper salts in weakly acid solution. Triethanolamine, sarcosine, triglycolamide acid and ethylene-bis - (imino - diacetic acid) are specified as complex forming compounds. Decoppering may be effected in acetic acid at about 80 DEG C. The dyestuffs may be further coppered on the fibre. In examples which illustrate the preparation of the dyestuffs and their use in dyeing cotton or regenerated cellulose in green shades the following initial dyestuffs are treated (1) and (3) salicyclic acid \sZ-1-amino-4-(41-amino)-benzoylaminobenzene-\sY 1 - amino - 2 ethoxynaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid -\sY 1 - acetylamino - 8 - naphthol- 3,6 - disulphonic acid; and (2) salicylic acid \sY-4,41-diaminodiphenyl -\sY 1 - amino - 2 - ethoxynaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid-\sY 1-amino-8-naphthol-2,4-disulphonic acid, the complex forming compounds being those specified above.
