787,377. Copy grinding. SENECA FALLS MACHINE CO. Feb. 21, 1956, No. 5391/56. Class 60. [Also in Group XXII] A pattern and tracer controlled machine tool comprises a number of pattern plates A, B, C, a single tracer 10 and automatic means relatively to shift the tracer and plates to cause the tracer to coact with the plates successively. The hydraulic duplicator 12 controls movement of a cutting tool or grinding wheel acting on a rotating workpiece. Initially, the tracer slide 14 is held downwardly by a piston 21 with a stop 30 on the slide against a fixed abutment 35, so that the tracer contacts template A. A solenoidoperated valve is then actuated to move a piston 45 and advance a sliding stop 40 so that, when the piston 21 is moved upwardly by operating a solenoid 71 controlling a valve V<SP>3</SP>, the slide 14 is held with a stop 31 against the stop 40. The tracer then contacts the template B. Finally, the piston 21 is moved downwardly to release the stop 40, the stop 40 is withdrawn and the piston 21 is reversed to hold the slide 14 with a stop 32 against the abutment 35, the tracer then contacting template C. The solenoid valves are controlled by switches operated by a cam and a ratchet device actuated by the tool slide at the end of each return movement.
