Abstract

721,393. Valves. ZIMMERMANN, MASCHINENFABRIK GES., G. June 13, 1952 [June 27, 1951], No. 15009/52. Class 135. [Also in Group XXII] A control device for foundry machines, particularly pneumatically or hydraulically operated moulding machines, by means of which a given operation of the machine is initiated each time a master control member is actuated so that if the master control member is successively actuated at such intervals that the appropriate operation may be performed, the operations are initiated in the machine in the correct sequence, comprises a pneumatically or hydraulically-controlled indexing disc which is equipped with detachable indexing members, such as screwed-in tripping pins, corresponding to the indexing sequence, whereby the successive actuations of the master control member are transmitted to the valves initiating the individual operations of the machine. The controlling body 1, Figs. 2 and 3, contains a number of valves 10-13 each adapted, when open, to admit air pressure to the cylinder for pressing, jarring, drawings, &c., and these valves are opened in the desired sequence by projections 40 on a disc 15. This is mounted on the rod 17 of a piston 9 and is lifted, against the action of a spring 18, each time air pressure is admitted below the piston by a press-button valve 31, Fig. 4, and pipe 5a. As long as the button 34 is pressed the exhaust 37 is closed and the inlet valve 31 is held open so that the piston 9 rises, a port 38 is uncovered and air is admitted via a pipe 39 to a cylinder causing a spring- returned piston 21 and ratchet 25 to rotate, through the desired angle, a ratchet-wheel 27 keyed to the disc 15. When this is returned by the spring 18 one of the projections strikes the stem 14 of the next valve. In a modification the button 34 is moved by a solenoid energized by pressing a switch and if automatic predetermined time intervals between the various operations of the machine is desired, the switch is operated by pins 57, Fig. 8, which are secured in any of the holes 56 of a disc D rotated by a motor. This arrangement may be used to control a number of machines and also other foundry plant. Also a number of different discs D may be used as alternatives or for main and subsidiary control of an entire foundry plant.
