Abstract

549,910. Valves. STEVENSON, H. A. Aug. 27, 1941, No. 10930. [Class 135] A valve device opened by hand and retained open by an electrically-actuated catch, particularly for controlling the flow of gas to a gas fired furnace or stove has a single loading device for closing the valve and for moving the catch to its release position when the electrical supply is interrupted. in the form shown in Fig. 1, the valve is loaded to close by a pair of tension springs anchored to the valve casing and to a transverse rod 1a secured to the valve spindle 2. The valve is moved to the open position by a hand lever 3 and is retained in the open positiom by pivoted catches 6b engaging a plate 10 secured to the valve spindle, when a solenoid 4 is energized. The matches are pivoted to depending lugs on a plate 8 supported by pillars 5 and are connected by links -9 to a pin 9a on ,the solenoid core. The solenoid circuit is closed through a switch 11 closed when the valve is in its open position by a tappet 14 on a plate 15 secured to the valve spindle acting through a spring-loaded plunger housed in a casing carried by the plate 8.
