Abstract

1,228,059. Ball projecting mechanisms. T. W. KICE, R. W. KICE and T. V. KICE [trading as K-B ENG.], 28 Nov., 1968 [12 Aug., 1968], No. 56630/68. Heading A6D. [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] A valve for use with ball throwing mechanism comprises a piston 59 spring-loaded to a closed position to block communication between an inlet 16 and an outlet 18 and formed with a groove 77 to communicate the inlet pressure to both ends of the piston. A discharge conduit 32 leads to a pilot valve for releasing the pressure from above the piston to open the valve. The pilot valve is operated by the pressure of fluid in the conduit 32 or by a solenoid controlled by a clock. A diaphragm 58 is connected to the bottom of the piston by a rod 56 which has a passage 75 therein to interconnect both sides of the diaphragm. In operation after the pressure below the piston is released to the outlet the pressure below the diaphragm ensures that the piston moves to its upper most position. The inlet and out-let openings 51 are rectangular. The diaphragm and groove 77 may be dispensed with and the piston is then made a loose fit. In use the valve is connected between a fluid pressure reservoir 14 and a ball throwing mechanism 27 having a pivoted arm 28 holding ball 38, which arm is actuated on opening the valve 12 to release pressure fluid to the mechanism 27. The pilot valve 30 is mounted in the mechanism 27 and has an adjusting lever 33 for altering the intervals between valve actuation. The intervals may also be adjusted by operation of the supply valve 24 for the reservoir 14.
