Abstract
787,335. Floor-treating machines. WESSELL, H. Oct. 18, 1954 [Feb. 25, 1954], No. 29883/54. Class 138(1). A cleaning or polishing apparatus, e.g. a floor waxing machine, has working members, e.g. brushes 1, 2, Fig. 1, reciprocatable towards and away from one another so that the gap between the members 1, 2 is periodically narrowed and widened, the members being so arranged that the mutually opposed edges 7, 8 leave between them only one gap over the whole length, in such a manner that the outline of the members 1, 2, forms a closed rectangle with the exception of the gap and that the members 1, 2, when viewed in the main direction of movement A of the apparatus which direction is perpendicular to the direction of movement H of the members 1, 2, mutually overlap one another in such a manner that during movement of the apparatus in the direction A each part of the surface to be treated is swept over. Instead of the edges 7, 8 being as shown they may be stepped, serrated or undulated. The brushes 1, 2, are enclosed by a fixed brush 6 and are driven by an electric motor and crank drive (not shown). As shown in Fig. 6, the brush 1 (or 2) is resiliently connected by a foam rubber layer 42 to a bearing plate 3. If desired, the brushes may be driven by an A.C. electromagnetic vibratory drive or by hydraulic means.
