Abstract
259,822. Chiabrando, S. March 11, 1926. Carpets, furs, rugs, and the like, beating mechanically. - The beating- rods are mounted on holders actuated by eccentrics on a shaft carried by a bead which is capable of being raised and lowered. The rod holders are in two portions, and are resiliently mounted. The shaft has a friction clutch in the drive from an electric motor. The head 7, Fig. 2, is raised or lowered by means of a rack 8 and worm gearing operated from a hand-wheel 11. The rod holders are attached to the straps of eccentrics 21, Fig. 4, mounted on a. shaft which carries one element 17 of a friction clutch, the other element forming part of a pulley 15, driven by a belt 14 from an electric motor 13. One construction, shown in Fig. 4, of a two-part holder comprises a part 24 having an extension 23 attached to the eccentric strap, and a part 26 pivoted at 30 to the first part, resilient bodies 34, 35 of rubber providing a damping action which is adjustable in amount. Various constructions of the two-part holder are described in which the resilient connection is variously mounted between the two parts. In some constructions, springs are employed.
