In a two-handed safety device for a power press, a longitudinally-movable control rod, actuated by one hand, is formed in two telescopic parts a, b which are coupled together, to render the control rod operative, only when a Bowden cable e, actuated by the other hand, has been moved to raise a gravity loaded member c slidable on the tube b, raising of the member c forcing two or more conicalfaced segments c' into engagement with a groove in the rod a. The member c is connected to the cable e by a forked member d pivoted at d<SP>1</SP> to the tube b. The rod a has a cylindrical boss a<SP>1</SP> and a conical formation a2 engageable with corresponding parts of the tube b. The segments c<SP>1</SP> may be urged outwardly by spring or other means.
