Abstract
861,437. Stripping cables. WELWYN TOOL CO. Ltd., and BERMAN, R. W. March 28, 1957 [April 5, 1956], No. 10408/56. Class 36. A tool for preparing the end of a screened cable comprises a tube 2 having a pointed end 3 and secured to a cap 13 screwed on the end of a barrel 1. A plunger shaft 4 projecting through a screwed cap 7 and provided with a controlknob 5 is slidable in the barrel 1 against the action of a spring 15. A plunger 8, Fig. 3, is slidable in the tube 3 and detachably secured to the end of shaft 4. In use, nuts 11, 12 are adjusted along the shaft 4 so that, when abutting the cap 7, the correct plunger-stroke is obtained. The tube 2 is pushed over the cablecore 10 and inside the screen and at the desired point, the end 3 is pushed through the screen and the plunger 8 ejected so as to force the core 10 clear of the screen. A range of tubes and plungers may be provided to suit different sizes of cables, Figs. 5-8 (not shown).
