[Also in Group XXII] A work holding device operable by one hand and particularly adapted for fitment to a mitre gauge 13 so that a workpiece 50 can be operated on at an angle by a saw 8, sander, grinding disc or other tool, comprises a hand grip 31, an arm 34 pivotally mounted on the hand grip, a screw-threaded square post 74 adjustably mounted in a slot 73 in the arm by means of nuts 76 and carrying a loosely-mounted shoe 77, and a trigger 56 slidable in the hand grip to operate a lever 51 against the action of a spring 62 for pivoting the arm 34 so that the shoe 77 clamps the work. The hand grip is in two mating parts held together by screws 41, 42 and one lower screw 41 attaches the grip to the mitre gauge and one upper screw 42 provides a pivot for the lever 51, which is detachably secured to the arm by a screw 72. Above the pivot point 12 of the mitre gauge, a shaped head 48 of a post 46 fits between the mating parts of the hand grip and the hand grip is rotatable on this head to ensure free movement of the mitre gauge. The gauge has a scale and is secured in adjusted angular position by a stud 17 and nut 18, predetermined fixed positions of, say, 45 degrees and 90 degrees being provided by adjustable screws which cooperate with a slidable stop pin 23. The bar 2 of the gauge engages in a slot 6 of the worktable 7.
