An angle attachment for setting up a workpiece in a surface grinding machine comprises a tool clamp 14 slidably mounted on a guide bar 13 disposed parallel with a setting straight edge 8, both the guide bar and setting straight edge being mounted in fixed parallel relationship in a carrier pivoted about a vertical axis 10 to a carrier arm 9 adapted for universal movement and to be held in the machine, a quadrant scale 20 forming part of the carrier and a setting index finger 22 secured to the carrier arm, the carrier being angularly movable about the axis 10 relatively to the.setting finger 22. The carrier member consists of two side plates 6 connected by the straight edge 8 and a transverse bar 7 which is connected by a pivot pin to the arm 9. The latter is connected by a bolt 12 to a shank member 11 adapted to be clamped to the machine and may be adjusted about both the axis of the bolt and that of the shank. A bar 24 secured at one end to the arm 9 supports a housing 26 for a fine-pitch screw which may be rotated by a finger piece 28 to cause a pin to traverse a sine bar clamped to the carrier and hence provide a fine angular adjustment for the latter. A spring 34 holds the pin against the sine bar. The clamp 14, which consists of a socket 18 in which an index finger may be held by screws 19, is supported at its front end by a bar 15 clamped to the plates 6 and is fitted with a finger piece 17 to enable it to be reciprocated. A spirit level 35 is preferably provided. A diamond may be mounted in the clamp 14 for trueing a grinding wheel.
