Abstract
785,960. Metal-heating furnaces. THERMOINDUSTRIEOFENBAU GES. Dec. 21, 1955 [Dec. 29, 1954], No. 36664/55. Class 51 (2). A composite skid rail for use in pusher-type furnaces, comprises rail sections 1<SP>1</SP>, 21 and 31 constructed from materials selected to withstand the mechanical and heat stresses in different zones of the furnace, thereby avoiding the necessity for cooling the rail. Section 11 is made of heat-resisting steel, preferably nickelchrome steel, to withstand the considerable temperature changes in the preheating zone of the furnace, where the approximate temperature range is 20-600‹ C. It may comprise a steel plate 11 disposed on a refractory base. Section 21 is made of silicose carbide to resist sudden temperature changes and abrasion in the next furnace zone up to approximately 900‹ C. The final section 3<SP>1</SP> is disposed in the hottest part of the furnace, where the temperature is more uniform, but where the rail may be subject to the action of scale from the charge. This section is made of fused oxide mixtures, e.g. an aluminium silicate containing approximately 72- 75 per cent Al 2 O 3 and 20 per cent SiO 2 . The cross-section of the rail is preferably trapezoidal and may have rounded upper corners.
