Abstract
784,299. Partitions. FRENCH, W. G. March 15, 1955 [Dec. 9, 1954], No. 7597/55. Class 20(4) A partition structure comprises complemental post and panel unit abutting the post and held resiliently together by a plurality of shouldered projections on the one interlocked within keyhole slots on the other, each keyhole slot being adapted to be passed over the projection by lateral movement and to interlock with the shoulder by vertical displacement, the locking devices being concealed in the locked position. The posts 10 and panels 15 interfit as shown in Fig. 5 and each post 10 is provided with projecting studs 38 secured through tapped apertures 36 in ears 35 projecting from the base 33 of inserts 32 in the posts 10 by threaded ends 37. Each panel 15 has sides 16 spaced apart by a base channel member 39 to which are secured springs 41, the studs 38 passing through apertures 39<SP>1</SP>, 41<SP>1</SP> therein. The studs 38 have reduced shanks 38<SP>1</SP> and tapered heads 46 which engage through slots 48 in a lock bar 43 (Figs. 1, 5) or 43a (Fig. 6), the upper part of slot 48 being of a width to take the shank 38<SP>1</SP> only. The lock bar 43 or 43a is constrained to longitudinal sliding by one or more headed pins 44 on the base 39 engaging slots 45 in the bar. The lock bars 43 or 43a are provided with cam members 49 each having an inclined surface 50 which bears against the upper free end 42. of one of the springs 41 when the bar is in locking position. As shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the lock bar 43 is operated by a key K which is passed through a slot 26 in the channel 24 at the upper edge of the panel 15. The key K has an end slot G to engage a fulcrum pin 52 on a channel member 51 secured to the channel member 39 and the key presses on the edges of a slot 53 in the bar 43 to move the bar in either direction. As shown in Fig. 6, the lock bar 43a has an inwardly directed flange 58 at its upper end with a tapped aperture 59. A bracket 60 is secured by a vertical flange 61 to the channel member 39 and a horizontal flange 62 overlies the flange 58 and has an aperture 63 in which a bolt 64 is supported by split rings 65. The bold 64 is screwed into the flange aperture 59 and the head 66 is accessible through slot 26 for manipulating the bolt to raise or lower the lock bar 43a. The posts 10 may have caps to hold channel members for panels and may have adjustable feet 31. Specifications 784,298 and 784,300 are referred to.
