Abstract

783,549. Inductors. NEOSID, Ltd. April 6, 1956 [Jan. 10. 1955], No. 680/55. Class 38 (2). A printed circuit inductor comprises two spiral conducting parts a connected together and means b movable across the spirals to vary their mutual coupling and hence the value of the inductance. As shown, the means b comprises a pivoted bar of soft magnetic material providing a cyclic variation of inductance on rotation. The bar may be screwmounted so as also to slowly increase the inductance on approach, or it may be replaced by a screw-mounted disc. Alternatively the bar or disc may be made of conducting non-magnetic material thereby decreasing the inductance on approach due to eddy current shielding of the flux paths. The spirals may be connected directly or through a capacitance and may be wound in the same or opposite senses. They may also be on opposite sides of an insulating sheet either in coaxial or staggered disposition and may be of different size and configuration and have variable pitch. The spirals may also be printed on two sheets (or one thick sheet having a coplanar slot) so that the coupling means may be passed between them.
