Abstract

783,360. Tensioning means. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. May 12, 1955 [Aug. 31, 1954], No. 13783/55. Class 120(2) '[Also in Group XXII] In a wire tensioning device for use during spooling &c. a guide for the wire is connected to a .pneumatic buffer and reciprocates between resilient means at the limits of its operating range. The wire passes over a sheave 19, Fig. 1 attached to a carrier 17 which is slidable on guides 16 and coupled to a piston rod 23 of a pneumatic cylinder 27. Springs 21, 31 act as buffers at each end of'the stroke. Substantially constant pressure is obtained over the length of stroke by using a piston 23 which is of small diameter in proportion to the cylinder 27. The piston 23 is of substantial length so that the device can provide storage for a limited length of wire.
