514,746. Dash-pots. BIGWOOD & SON, Ltd., J., and MUNSTER, W. May 14, 1938, No. 14422. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] A draw bench for cold drawing tubes and other material includes a dash-pot device M. A cradle G carrying the die and mandrel is connected to one end of a rod m' of a piston m of a dash-pot M, the dash-pot cylinder being secured to a fixed part of the draw bench. The piston and rod has a bore m<2> adapted to receive a tapered rod N extending from one end of the cylinder. At the beginning of the drawing operation, the cradle is moved due to the friction between the die and mandrel and the tube, fluid in the dash-pot cylinder passing through the piston by way of the bore m<2> and radial passages m<6>. The bore m<2> is gradually closed by the tapered rod N so that the cradle is gradually brought to rest. The piston and cradle are afterwards returned by a weight P, a spring operated valve m<4> opening to permit the passage of fluid through openings m<3> in the piston.
