A motor vehicle ignition and electrical supply system comprises a flywheel magneto having two A.C. output coils 1 for supplying the engine ignition and 15 for supplying headlamps and other vehicle accessories 12 ... 14 and a battery 9, a rectifier 8 connected both between the coil 15 and the battery 9 and through a relay to the headlamps and other accessories 12 . . . 14 said relay controlling the output circuits of the coil 15, and a high voltage coil 2, 2<SP>1</SP> for feeding sparking plugs C only one of which is shown which coil by a change-over switch 5 can be connected selectively either to the magneto coil 1 or to the battery 9. By this system the vehicle driver can manually select either source for the ignition, and the relay due to its coil 16 being connected in the supply circuit of the headlamps &c. automatically selects the required output from coil 15, i.e. when no lamps &c. are operative the relay is de-energized and the rectifier is fed, through relay contact 10, from a tapping 7 on coil 15, but when the lamps &c. are operative the relay is energized to connect the entire coil 15 across the rectifier. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 643,698.
