Abstract

778,629. Vehicle supply systems. WIPAC DEVELOPMENT, Ltd. June 29, 1955 [Sept. 13, 1954], No. 26504/54. Class 38 (4). An electricity supply system for road vehicles comprises an A.C. generator connected to terminals 10, a rectifier 11, and a battery 12 adapted to be charged from .the output of the rectifier. The connections to an ignition coil 9 and lamps 20, 21, 22 are controlled by an ignition switch 13 and a lighting switch 16. The arrangement is such that when the ignition switch is in the upper " on " position and the lighting switch is in the lower " off " position, a dummy load represented by a portion of resistor 23 is connected to the output of the rectifier. This prevents the development of excessive voltage across the rectifier should the battery be removed or accidentally open-circuited. When the lighting load is varied, the switch 16 is adapted to connect a suitable portion of the resistor 23 in parallel with the lamps to maintain a substantially constant load upon the generator for all settings of the lighting switch. The adjustment of the ignition switch to the lower " emergency " position effects the disconnection of the resistor so that the output of the rectifier is supplied directly to the ignition coil.
