782,586. Movable strut and stanchions. LEGRAND, P. Feb. 10, 1955 [Feb. 12, 1954], No. 3994/55. Class 113. A movable ship's stanchion, strut or prop adapted to be moved along reinforcing members 3, 4 of the structure 2 to be propped and of the deck, floor or structure 1 acting as a support and to be adjusted for variable heights, comprises a central pillar 5 adjustable in its longitudinal dimension having at each end a stand unit 6, 7 provided with rolling or sliding members, e.g. rollers 14, 24, 24<SP>1</SP> and abutment and guiding members 13, 37, 23, 38 co-operating with said reinforcing members. The pillar 5 is a telescopic assembly of tubes 9, 10 connected by a shaft 11 having left and right handed threads, the stand unit 6 being connected to the pillar by a pivot 8 at right angles to the plane in which the prop is movable so that the upper and lower stand units 7, 6 may take up the angle formed between the members 2, 3 when the latter sag or bend. Springs 29, 291, and 21 provide a resilient mounting for the rollers, and the abutment members 13, 23 are provided with means 32, 33 whereby the prop may be fixed to the reinforcing members when it is in the desired position.
