782,328. Stabilizing ships. DEUTSCHE WERFT AKT.-GES. Oct. 24, 1955 [Aug. 1, 1955], No. 30388/55. Class 113. In a device for damping the rolling of ships comprising stabilizers which may be swung out of a chamber in the hull into the operating position, a shaft 1 rigidly connected at its inner end to a swivelling support 2 is furnished with bearings 3, 4 about which the stabilizers 5 are angularly movable. Angular movement of the stabilizers about the shaft may be effected, for example, by an hydraulic piston rod and cylinder 11, 9 via levers 12, 17, and a safety valve 26 may be opened to permit return of the stabilizer to zero setting when necessary. The swivelling support 2 is rotated by levers 22, 20 from an hydraulic cylinder 19 having a safety valve 24 which may be operated when the leading edge of the stabilizer is subjected to a blow. The space 6 between the bearings receives lubricant from an elevated container or oil pressure pump through passages 7 and 8.
