Class 97(1) In a goniometer comprising a graduated circle and an optical viewing device by which images of two diametrically opposite positions of the circle are brought into a common field of view, the circle has two diametrically opposite zero positions the graduations are one side of each zero being finer than those on the opposite side and the finer graduations being diametrically opposite the other graduations so that images of fine and coarse graduations appear in the common field of view. As shown the graduations are indicated positively and negatively on the two sides of the zero. Two concentric circular scales may be provided or the two circles may be on coaxial circles in different planes.
