Abstract
781,618. Bearings. McCALLUM, N. C. April 18, 1955 [May 31, 1954 Sept. 20, 1954 ; Jan. 7, 1955], No. 11116/55. Class 12 (1). A bearing, especially suitable for use in agricultural implements such as stump-jump disc ploughs, comprises a housing 10, Fig. 2, with end faces engaged by end plates 17, 18, antifriction elements 11, 12 disposed within the housing about a rotatable shaft 24, sealing means 16 adapted to retain lubricants within the housing 10, and a passage 30 leading from inside to outside the housing and provided with a variable-pressure control valve 29 which prevents the pressure of lubricant within the housing from exceeding a predetermined value. The element 11 shown as a roller bearing is held in place between a collar 38 and a helical spring 13 which bears against a shoulder 14 on the housing 10. On the other side of the shoulder 14 a lead-bronze washer 15 is interposed between the shoulder and roller bearing 12. The sealing means 16 may be flat or cupped washers of leather or rubber compound. The roller bearings 11, 12 may each be replaced by a ball bearing 39, Fig. 3, with the races inclined as shown at 44.
