Abstract

781,085. Cooling bearings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 12, 1955 [Oct. 12, 1954], No. 29393/54. Class 12 (1). Cooling oil is supplied to grooves 2, 3, 4 located in an outer member 1 surrounding a bearing shell 8, end grooves 2 being connected to a central groove 3 by helical grooves 4. Oil is supplied to the central groove 3 through a passage 5 in the member 1 and leaves through ports 6, 7 in communication with the end grooves 2. Oil is fed to the bearing surface through a passage 9 in line with the supply passage 5. A channel 10 in the bearing surface overlies the supply passage 9, and a similar channel 12 on the opposite side of the bearing is in communication with discharge ports 11 leading to the channels 2 and ports 6, 7.
