Abstract

781,082. Spring catches. ELSWICKHOPPER CYCLE & MOTOR CO., Ltd. July 8, 1955 [Oct. 6, 1954], No. 28816/54. Class 44 [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXIT] In a telescopic control handle for a child's cycle or tricycle, one of the telescopic parts 25 is. provided with notches 28, 29 spaced along its length and the other telescopic part 10 is provided with a spring urged latch which is arranged automatically to engage one or other of the notches in the part 25 according to whether the telescopic parts are extended or retracted, the latch being provided with a head 23 for manually withdrawing it from a notch. The' telescopic part 10 is tubular and is slotted at 11 from one end to the other. The other telescopic portion comprises a rectangular bar 25 one edge 27 of which enters the slot 11. One end of the tubular part 10 is provided with a rubber sleeve forming a hand grip 12. The other end of the part 10 is provided with a closure member 13 having a circular part 14 and a projection 15 which extends through the slot 11. A slot is provided in the closure member 13 for the passage of the bar 25. A boss 17 projects 'from one side of the tubular part 10 and is drilled to receive a plunger 18 which forms part of the latch. The plunger extends across the tubular part 10 and through a hole 19 which intersects the slot 11. The plunger is slotted at 20 to provide a fork which is bridged by a pin 22 extending across the slot 11. A spring 24 tends to draw the pin 22 against the edge 27 of the bar 25 in which the notches 28, 29 are formed. When it is desired to withdraw the pin 22 from a notch, the enlarged head 23 of the plunger 18 is depressed against the action of the spring 24, whereupon the telescoping parts may be moved axially. Removal of the bar 25 from the tubular part 10 is prevented by a disc 31, which is brazed to the bar 25, coming into contact with the plunger 18.
