The subject-matter of this Specification is identical with that described in Specification 781,042, but the claims relate to a tobacco manipulating machine in which a tobacco stream is conveyed in two stages and the speed of conveyance of the second stage is controlled in dependence on the rate of flow of tobacco detected at a point a fixed distance in advance of the position at which the speed change takes place.
