781,038. Knitting-machines. MORETTA, G. Sept. 14, 1955 [April 2, 1955], No. 26256/55. Class 74 (2). The take-up rollers 18, 20 supported on the fabric receiving receptacle adapted to revolve with the needle cylinder of a circular machine are rotated to take up the fabric by a flat coil spring 36 attached to the spindle 17 of one of the rollers. As the rollers rotate, the spring is periodically rewound by pawl and ratchet mechanism 32, 37 operated by a stationary member 40 engaging a lever 38 as the whole mechanism and receptacle revolve. A bluffing disc 33 co-operates with the pawl and one or more of the teeth of the ratchet wheel is or are shortened to prevent actuation of the wheel by the pawl, and consequent rewinding of the spring, unless a depression in the disc 33 permits engagement of the pawl with the shortened tooth or teeth. The disc is coupled to the shaft 17 of the roller and has a projection for engagement with a projection on the ratchet wheel such that the rollers cannot rotate and the spring unwind in the event of no fabric passing between the rollers. The spindle 19 of the roller 20 is mounted in slots in the side walls 15, 16 of the mechanism and is resiliently urged towards the other roller. The two rollers are geared together.
