Class 100(4) An ink-ribbon feed reversing mechanism operated by the increased ribbon tension when a spool is exhausted comprises spools 11, 65 rotated by pawls 43, 53 engaging ratchet wheels 10, 52 and held by arresting pawls 24, 51. Each spool has a ribbon guide lever 21, 50 over which the ribbon 44 passes and the ribbon is arranged to form an acute angle over the lever 21 of the exhausted spool and an obtuse angle over the lever 50 of the full spool so that the increased tension has a maximum operating force. The increased tension will from the position shown rock the guide lever 21 to the dotted line position during which movement by its engagement of a flange 19 will move a reversing lever 12 until a spring 16 forces it, and by a connecting link 29 a reversing lever 30, to the reverse feed position. In the new position the lever 12 will have its arm 28 out of engagement with the pawls 24, 43 which engage the wheel 10 and start to feed the spool 11 in the reverse direction while an arm of the lever 30 will cam the pawls 51, 53 away from the ratchet wheel 52. Catches 33, 47 are frictionally rotated by their associated spools so that the active feed spool guide lever 50 is locked by engagement of a projection 48 with an abutment 49 while the latch 33 leaves the guide lever 21 free to make the reversing movement described.
