Abstract

780,910. Screw, &c. propellers. TAYLOR, E., and SHIPP, R. Oct. 10, 1955 [Oct. 4, 1955] No. 28176/55. Class 114. A ship's propeller comprises helicoidal surface blades fitted internally and externally to a tapered barrel. A tapered barrel 8 surrounds the propeller boss 6 and is connected thereto by helical blades 3, outer helical blades 1 being secured on the outside of the barrel, preferably as continuations of the inner blades. The propeller may be cast in one piece or the barrel and outer blades be cast separately and welded to the inner blades. When the propeller is associated with a submerged electric motor carried on a bracket on the hull, the propeller is extended forwardly as at 36, Fig. 5 to provide large ports 35 leading into the interior of the barrel.
