Abstract
780,111. Retractive switches. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Aug. 15, 1955 [Aug. 23, 1954], No. 23468/55. Class 38(5). A switch suitable for starting the engine of a vehicle on depression of the accelerator pedal comprises a rotor 42 having lugs 44, 46, 48 connected by a spring 50 to a shaft 16 and a ball 62 vertically movable in a guide 64 under the influence of engine suction through a sleeve 60 and conduit 54. On movement of a lever the shaft 16 is rotated anticlockwise so that lug 48 closes spring blade contacts 36, 38 in the motor circuit, and the lug 44 enters the guide 64 to prevent movement of the ball. On release of the lever the rotor returns and the lug 46 gives a positive actuation to the ball 62 (to combat any tendency to stick) which moves under suction to close the sleeve 60. Further actuation of the switch contacts by movement of the lever is prevented by engagement of the lug 44 with the ball 62.
