Abstract

779,701. Filters. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY [formerly BRITISH ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY], and HODGKINSON, A. J. April 21, 1955 [March 2, 1954], No. 6084/54. Class 46. Water is admitted at 8 to the annular region 20 between two frusto-conical screens 11 secured to a hub 15, Fig. 1, secured in turn to a rotatable shaft 16. A shroud 21 partially surrounding the screening element so formed seals off the region 20 from an outlet duct 9. Where, as shown, two screening, elements are provided, water for filtration may be passed through one whilst the other is being cleaned. Each screen is reinforced by radial arms 12 connected to a ring 13 and the screens are further connected by tie bars 15a. Water for cleaning may be supplied through connections 23 to perforated pipes (not shown) located so as to spray the screens while the latter are being rotated. The hub 15 may be replaced by a perforated barrel constituting an additional screen. Perforated pipes may also be provided (together with brushes) in the annular region 20.
