Abstract

849,554. Rotary filters. S. E. R. G. SOC. D'ETUDES, RECHERCHER ET GERANCE, and ECREMEUSES MELOTTE. Sept. 12, 1956 [Sept. 12, 1955], No. 27882/56. Class 46. A rotating drum filter 1, having the usual suction arrangements, has a layer of cloth 2 on which is deposited a layer 3 of filter and such as infusorial earth. The filter aid in the trough 4 is replaced by the liquid to be filtered. The trough 4 is connected by a conduit 7 and pump 7<SP>1</SP> to a spray or trough 20 which itself is connected back to the trough 4. As the drum rotates liquid to be filtered is-sprayed onto the drum at 20 so that filtration takes place over both of the sectors III 1 , III 2 . The last trace of filtrate is removed over sector IV and the residue is washed over sector V by a spray 27. The residue is removed over sector VI together with part of the layer 3 by a rotating scraper 8 having blades 9, and passes down a ramp 24 to an Archemedian screw 26. Over the sector I further filter aid is sprayed, by an atomiser device 15, and this is dried over sector II. The rotating scraper may be moved radially relative to the drum 1. The filter aid supplied through the atomiser 15 and the washing solvent supplied by spray 27 are kept in continuous circulation in a similar manner to the liquid in trough 4, by suitable pumps and tanks for the liquids, to prevent clogging of the spray holes. An agitator 22 is provided and the trough 4 is preferably of the double walled type so that steam may be supplied through conduit 5 to keep the liquid in the trough at the desired temperature. The atomiser device 15 is preferably formed by two relatively rotatable tubes provided with radial ports.
