Abstract
<PICT:0779423/IV(b)/1> <PICT:0779423/IV(b)/2> <PICT:0779423/IV(b)/3> An impregnated fabric F fed from a supply trough 10 is led into a known pleating machine 13 and is fed from there without tension into a curing oven A where heated air or other gas is supplied from trunking 25 and manifolds 28, 29 to perforated tubes 31 and 32. The gas passes from the tubes 31 through the pleated fabric PF being carried along on a conveyer belt 19, 19R passing around an idle drum 2- and a driven drum 21, and is exhausted via downcomers 33, 33a for reheating and re-circulation, Fig. 6, not shown. The treated fabric is then batched on a roll 37 driven by contact with the conveyer, and a web of tissue paper 41 supplied from a roll 40 is interleaved between the fabric convolutions. The fabric is fed smoothly to the pleating machine by taking it from a roll 43, Fig. 5, and feeding it over a driven feed roll 46 into a trough 10, in which trough is pivotally mounted a trigger plate 47 controlling an electric motor 49 through a rheostat or relay 48. If tension increases in the fabric then the roller 11 is lifted, thus permitting the trigger 47 to rise and adjust the rheostat to increase the speed of the motor 49 and feed more fabric to the trough, whereupon the weight responsive trigger 47 drops and reduces the motor-speed.
