A stacking and depositing device,e.g. for long textile pieces, having conveyer belts guided over a rocker table pivotable about an axis and a feed table between end rollers, whereby the textile pieces are laid in zig-zag fashion by means of reciprocating movement of the rocker table is characterized in that between rotatably mounted rocker table arms, above and below the pivotal axis of the rocker table, guide rollers are mounted which lead the conveyer belts out of the plane of the feed table into that of the rocker table, the distance of each guide roller relative to the pivotal axis of the rocker table being so selected that the length of the conveyer belts guided over the rocker table remains constant during reciprocating movement of the rocker table and undue tensional stresses in the belt are avoided. In the arrangement shown endless conveyer belts 11 are guided over rollers 14,14a, 15 and 16. Rollers 14,14a and 15 are mounted on rocker arms 18,19 pivoted on shaft 17 so that the belts form a feed table 12 and a rocking table 20 for folding material in zigzag fashion on table 31. Mounted also on the arms 18,19 are guide rollers 22, 23 for belts 21 which are in contact with belt 11 or material thereon. The belts are driven from motor 24 which also drives the rocker arms 18,19 via levers 27 and crank drive 28. The reciprocating movement of table 20 folds textile piece 30 in zig-zag fashion on table 31. The latter is preferably provided with means for vertical adjustment in accordance with the weight of material deposited thereon. Such means can be by weight, springs, pneumatic or hydraulic means with hand or mechanical control means. Transverse stretching means may be provided above table 11 to effect transverse stretching of the textile piece prior to its being fed on to table 12. Such stretching means may comprise gripping jaws which are adjustable in a transverse direction on a cross-bar. Further conveyer means may be provided adjacent table 31 for transferring the folded textile pieces to, for example, a mangle.
