Class 102(2) [Also in Groups XIII and XXIX] A piston valve 32, having steam ports 40a and air ports 41a. is operated by an extension 30 of the rod 26 of a float 22 of a steam trap to slide in a guide 33 having corresponding ports 40, 41 opening to a steam chest 36 and an air chest 38 respectively the chests being formed in a chamber 34 by a partition 35. When the float chamber 21 is full of condensate and the float has risen to the position shown, steam from an inlet 37 enters the float chamber 21 by way of the chest 36, ports 40, 40a and the interiors of both the piston valve 32 and a casing 42, to force the condensate back to a boiler, e.g. of a central heating. system. When the condensate has left the chamber 21, the float 22 falls together with the piston valve 32 so that the air ports 41, 41a are in communication, but the steam ports 40, 40a are not, and the float chamber communicates with the air chest 38 and an air vent 39. The trap is similar to those described in Specification 646,840, in which their method of use in a central heating system is shown. A snap action of the float and valve is obtained by springs 53 bearing with adjustable pressure on plungers 51 connected by toggle links 50 with a collar 31 on the float rod 26 in the chamber 42.
