Abstract
779,316. Moistening tobacco. SCHIFF & STERN GES. Sept. 27, 1955, No. 27541/55. Class 130 Warm moist air is passed through a bale or barrel-shaped mass 4 of laminated tobacco placed as a partition between two sub-divisions of a treatment chamber 1 with the laminations edge-on to each. Flaps or inflatable bags 8 and, if necessary, a top partition 8 with resilient edges 8b co-act with the mass 4 to sub-divide a chamber 1 into spaces alternately supplied with air from a fan 9 and conditioner 10 via a valve 11, each space when unsupplied being connected by its supply duct 11a or 11b to an exhaust duct 13. The mass 4 stands, preferably resting on the base 7 of a barrel, on a step 5 centrally recessed,. the chamber end 2 forming a door having an observation window. Vertical rods 15 support the mass 4 and bags 8. In a modification, the mass 4 is disposed horizontally in an upper space along an open-centred gutter leading to a lower space; this arrangement may also be used turned through a right angle so that the mass 4 is upright, vertical supporting rods being used on its free side.
